During an interview on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast with Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky, and Kristin Batalucco, Kevin Gates opened up about what led him to embrace semen retention after a period of frequently watching pornography.
Around the six-minute mark, Dicky asked Gates if he had ever struggled with sexual insecurity. “Yeah… I used to watch a lot of porn, [and] it’ll make you feel insecure,” Gates admitted. “This like, before I went on my semen retention journey. I developed an insecurity with that until I realized how scared your masculinity is. I realize how sacred semen retention is.”
When asked to explain the concept, Gates described it as choosing not to “release.” He added that one of his methods involves engaging his pelvic floor, which he referred to as “the gooch.”
“You work the pelvic floor… When you squeeze that, it sends the energy up,” he said. “Once I refrained from watching porn and I realized the intimacy was sacred between me and my partner, that’s when I realized, like, that’s true intimacy. To know a person. Like, even praying before you have sex with your partner, that’s intimate to me.”
He also shared his belief that “masturbation leads to depression,” noting that it’s something he no longer does. When Blanco asked when the last time was, Gates replied, “I was a teenager,” adding that the private nature of it made him question the behavior.
Gates said he had once been told that masturbation is similar to “self-mutilation,” and maintained that there are “other ways to stimulate yourself.”
“You could take that same energy, that sexual energy, and go work out,” he explained. “It’s sexual transmutation; you could put that energy in other places. Like, with all due respect, when I walked in the room, when y’all met me, y’all felt my aura. Your sexual, it’s your truth. … Now, when I do release, I’m going to release in my wife.”
Later in the interview, around the 33-minute mark, Gates joked around with Blanco and Dicky, asking if they enjoy being the little spoon when cuddling. He also revisited a past claim about starting a car with his bare hands, laughing it off by saying, “I ain’t tell you the real secret,” before joking, “Put my dick on a battery,” and then adding, “Maybe one of the wires was loose or something. … Weird shit happen to me all the time!”
