Justin Timberlake couldn’t help but crack a joke after noticing he was listed as “white” on his arrest paperwork in newly released bodycam footage from his 2024 DWI arrest.
In the clip, the pop star playfully acted confused while speaking to officers, reacting to the moment he saw his race marked as “white” on the document.
“White?” Timberlake, then 43, said in the footage. “I’m just kidding, man.”
The remark appeared to get a few laughs from the officers at the scene.
Earlier this month, Timberlake’s legal team pushed back against the release of the footage, filing a complaint that called it “an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.”
“The harm from public exposure—stigma, harassment, reputational injury, and the permanent loss of privacy—is immediate and irreparable,” his attorneys stated in court documents filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court, according to NBC News.
Timberlake was pulled over in Sag Harbor, New York, in June 2024 after swerving on the road. Police reported that he ran a stop sign and struggled to stay in his lane, later failing his field sobriety tests.
At the time, he was in the middle of his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, marking his first tour since 2019.
While he initially denied being intoxicated, Timberlake later accepted a plea deal in September 2024, pleading guilty to impaired driving. The agreement reduced the original misdemeanor charge to a noncriminal traffic violation.
As part of the deal, he agreed to record a public safety message about the risks of drunk driving, pay a $500 fine, complete 25 hours of community service, and had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days.
