During an April 8 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Matt Bomer sat down to discuss his new film Outcome alongside co-stars Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz. While reflecting on the less glamorous side of fame, Bomer shared a wild moment where an overexcited fan nearly ran him over.
“They were really excited,β Bomer said. βIt wasn’t the best way to break the ice, but they didn’t mean harm. They just weren’t thinking in the moment.”
He continued, “They were turning left and saw me as they were turning, I guess. They wanted to say hi, and then pulled over, and it was awkward. I’m always grateful that people have responded to whatever you’ve done, but that was definitely one of the times it got a little out of hand.”
Reeves joked, “My God, Matt Bomer, you were causing traffic accidents!” while Diaz added, “I’d crash my car if I saw you on the street.β
Outcome, a dark comedy written and directed by Jonah Hill, follows Reevesβ character Reef, a Hollywood star forced to confront his past after being threatened with old footage.
According to Entertainment Tonight, βAt one point during the dizzying saga, the actor is accosted by two fans at a grocery store who drastically overshare about how much his work means to them.β
Reeves compared that scene to Bomerβs real-life encounter, saying, “I think in the film when Reef goes to the supermarketβ¦ You can have those kinds of really enthusiastic interactions sometimes. You’re doing your thing in the day, and then someone is sharing their enthusiasm.”
Diaz added, “Fame is a spectrum. Everybody experiences it on different levels, and there’s no handbook to it, so you don’t know how to necessarily go forward within it, but you make your way. And then you’re in it, and once you’re in it, there’s really no going back.”
Outcome is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on April 10.
