Ashlee Jenae was discovered unresponsive earlier this month while on a trip to Tanzania with her fiancé, Joe McCann.
Cardi B appeared to react to the growing online speculation surrounding the influencer’s death with a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. “That girl did not off herself!!!!” she wrote. While many believe she was referring to Jenae’s case, she didn’t offer any further explanation.
Jenae had recently traveled to Tanzania with her fiancé to celebrate her 31st birthday. Her final social media post came on April 5, where she shared a photo with a giraffe alongside the caption: “Chapter 31 and I’m exactly where I need to be.”
On Sunday, her family confirmed she was found unresponsive in her villa before being rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. “Nothing about this loss feels real. One moment she was celebrating love and life in truly Ashly fashion, and the next, she was gone. The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family,” they shared in a statement. “At this time, there is an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ashly’s suspicious passing. Although we have many questions, we are placing our trust in the officials in Zanzibar and are working closely with them as we seek clarity and answers.”
They ended by urging the public to be cautious about speculation. “We respectfully ask that any information not directly provided by our family be treated as unverified and not considered factual at this time.” The mention of “unanswered questions” has since fueled widespread speculation online about what may have happened.
Ashlee Jenae’s parents have also spoken with CBS News about the tragedy, revealing that Joe McCann allegedly informed them she had been hospitalized. He has not been charged in connection with her death. The family also shared plans to travel to Tanzania themselves in hopes of gaining more clarity on the situation.
