Tory Lanez’s legal battles are now stretching beyond his criminal case as he faces a growing conflict with California prison officials. New court documents reveal that the incarcerated rapper fears for his safety behind bars and has sought protection through the courts following a violent stabbing attack and ongoing tensions with correctional staff.
According to filings submitted by his attorney, Lanez recently obtained a temporary restraining order after alleging that a correctional officer at California Men’s Colony engaged in conduct that jeopardized his safety. The rapper claims he has been subjected to intimidation and retaliatory behavior connected to legal action he previously filed against the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. A judge granted temporary relief as the case continues to move forward.
The latest filing comes just weeks after Lanez launched a $100 million lawsuit related to a brutal prison attack in 2025 that left him hospitalized with multiple stab wounds and two collapsed lungs. His legal team alleges that a staff member at the facility referenced the near-fatal incident while discussing a potential transfer to another housing unit, prompting concerns that Lanez could be placed in a setting where he may face an increased risk to his safety.
Lanez’s legal team argues that the situation has moved far beyond a typical prison disagreement and now represents an urgent safety concern that warrants immediate court action.
“The retaliation, threats, and interference with [Lanez]’s access to the courts are ongoing, immediate, and escalating, and they place [Lanez] at risk of further injury before the Court can hear the matter on full notice,” attorney Crystal Morgan stated in court filings obtained by USA Today. “The conduct at issue is an ongoing threat to [Lanez]’s safety. Such a harm cannot be undone by a later judgment or through money damages.”
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence following his conviction in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Despite his incarceration, his legal team continues to challenge various aspects of his treatment and conditions behind bars.
In addition to requesting restrictions on contact with the correctional officer named in the complaint, Lanez is seeking safeguards against any potential retaliation. His attorneys have also asked that prison officials preserve relevant records and evidence that could play a key role as the dispute progresses through the legal system.
