Kanye West’s return to the stage continues to generate controversy as he works to secure venues across the United States and abroad.
Since releasing Bully, Ye has faced criticism and protests surrounding several of his performances. Despite the backlash, the opposition has not significantly impacted attendance, with the rapper reportedly selling out SoFi Stadium twice earlier this year and recently claiming he staged the largest stadium concert in history in Türkiye.
Now, his upcoming shows in Tampa are drawing fresh resistance. According to AllHipHop, multiple Florida organizations have voiced concerns over West’s scheduled June 26 and June 28 performances at Raymond James Stadium.
Among those calling for the concerts to be canceled are the Florida Holocaust Museum, the Tampa Jewish Federation, the Florida chapter of the National Organization for Women, and Senator Rick Scott.
Eric Stillman, president of the Florida Holocaust Museum, questioned the sincerity of West’s previous apologies for his controversial remarks.
“To say he was sorry and to say it was based on a manic episode and not to take any actions after that, to demonstrate that this was a sincere change of heart, is really what is so hard for the members of the Jewish community in Tampa, and throughout the region and throughout the world to take that as sincere,” Stillman said.
As part of its response to the upcoming concerts, the Florida Holocaust Museum announced plans to offer free admission on the same dates as Kanye West’s scheduled Tampa performances.
Earlier this year, Ye addressed his past antisemitic comments in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, where he said he had been diagnosed with bipolar I disorder and was also dealing with an undiagnosed brain injury. He suggested that both played a role in the behavior and statements that sparked widespread backlash.
With opposition to the Tampa shows continuing to grow, attention remains focused on whether the performances will proceed as planned. We’ll keep you updated as more developments emerge surrounding Kanye West’s upcoming appearances.
