Bobby Shmurda Announces Father’s Release From Prison After Serving More Than 30 Years

Bobby Shmurda has plenty to celebrate after announcing that his father has been released from prison following more than three decades behind bars.

The Brooklyn rapper shared the heartfelt reunion on social media, posting several videos of the two spending time together shortly after his father’s release. “Nah why my pops out,” Shmurda captioned one clip showing them seated side by side in the back of a car.

In another video, Shmurda stood shirtless beside his father, who was focused on a tablet while the rapper smiled nearby, appearing to soak in the significance of the long-awaited moment.

Bobby Shmurda was just two months old when his father was arrested and sentenced, meaning nearly his entire life was spent with his dad behind bars. The release marks a powerful full-circle moment for the rapper, whose own journey has also been shaped by imprisonment and a return to freedom.

Shmurda first rose to fame in 2014 with his breakout hit “Hot N***a,” quickly becoming one of hip-hop’s biggest rising stars. However, his momentum was cut short later that year when he was arrested on conspiracy and weapons-related charges.

The track even references his father, with Shmurda rapping: “Mama said no pussycats inside my doghouse (Pussy n***a) / That’s what got my daddy locked up in the dog pound (Huh).”

After serving more than six years in prison, Shmurda was released in February 2021. So far, he has not publicly shared many details about his father’s case or what the future holds now that the family has finally been reunited.
