Benny Safdie has officially become the highest-grossing actor of 2026 so far.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Safdie’s impressive box office numbers come from his appearances in two major films — Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which has earned $1,011,157,101 worldwide, and The Odyssey, which has brought in $727.9 million.
Although Safdie played supporting roles in both movies — voicing Bowser Jr. in Galaxy and portraying Agamemnon in Odyssey — the combined earnings from the films have pushed his total box office gross beyond the $2 billion mark for the year.
With five months still remaining in 2026, Safdie faces strong competition from some of his The Odyssey co-stars.
Zendaya’s year has been packed with major releases, including The Drama, The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Dune: Part Three. Tom Holland, meanwhile, is set to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and could potentially have a role in Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to be a major box office hit.
Given that Spider-Man: Brand New Day recently shattered an opening-day box office record with a $168 million debut, there is a strong possibility that Safdie’s top spot could eventually be taken. However, his latest film, The Odyssey, is also on track to become one of the year’s billion-dollar blockbusters alongside Toy Story 5, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and Michael.
Outside of acting, Safdie is also focused on his work behind the camera. He is currently directing Lizard Music, a live-action and CGI hybrid film for Amazon MGM Studios, based on Daniel Pinkwater’s children’s book.
