Mychal Threets Opens Up About Struggling, Says He’ll Be Checking Into a Hospital

Mychal “the Librarian” Threets, the former children’s librarian whose uplifting and inspiring social media presence propelled him to viral fame and landed him a role hosting the revamped Reading Rainbow, has revealed that he is “not okay” and intends to check into a hospital.

During the early hours of Monday (August 17), Threets, who has openly advocated for mental health awareness in recent years, shared a concerning message on Threads.

“I am not okay,” he began. “Maybe I’ll never be okay. I’m seeking help. Going to the hospital tomorrow. In this moment I am safe. By God’s grace.

“No matter what happens to me I will always be thankful for the extraordinary people in my life who worry, who help me. Thank you for your care. I will always love you.”

Threets has previously been candid about his struggles with mental health. In 2024, he left his position at the Solano County Library, explaining in a social media post that he was stepping away to “prioritiz[e] my mental health.”

“My mental health struggle has been scarily real since I was 8-years-old,” he explained. “I’ve built coping strategies, I meet with my therapist, I’m on medication.”
