AllStar JR to Stay Behind Bars While Awaiting Federal Trial

AllStar JR will remain behind bars as he awaits the start of his federal gun trial later this month.

On Tuesday (Aug. 18), U.S. District Judge George C. Hanks Jr. denied the Detroit rapper’s request to amend or overturn a previous detention order. JR, whose real name is Jeremy Christopher Ford, will stay in federal custody ahead of his trial.

The ruling follows federal prosecutors’ push last month for the court to deny JR’s bid for release. His attorneys had challenged an April ruling by a Michigan magistrate judge that ordered him to remain detained as the case moves forward.

Prosecutors maintained that JR had not provided any new information significant enough to justify reconsidering the earlier decision. They also argued that he poses a danger to the public and that no release conditions would sufficiently address those concerns.

JR is facing a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with an April 8 shooting at Confessions Restaurant in Houston.

Authorities say JR was approached by several men in what has been described as an attempted robbery before he picked up a gun from the ground and began firing. NBA Ben10 was hit multiple times during the shooting and, according to prosecutors, suffered irreversible paralysis.

JR’s trial was originally set for July 7 but was later postponed to Aug. 31 after his attorney, John M. Helms, asked for more time to review the discovery materials.
