The rapper now known as Ye (previously Kanye West) has expressed that Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II stands as the ultimate video game creation to date.
On his Instagram, Ye posted footage showing himself playing the acclaimed game, which initially debuted on PS4 in 2020 before receiving an enhanced PS5 version in 2023. In his caption, he described his experience with the game’s challenging Survivor+ difficulty setting, stating: “Last of Us 2 on Survivor + mode got me spending all day on one board.” He emphatically added, “By faaaaaaarrrr the best game ever made so far,” while clarifying that this was “not a sponsored post.”
Ye, has previously demonstrated his enthusiasm for gaming. In 2018, he publicly requested assistance in connecting with renowned Japanese game developer Hideo Kojima, known for creating Metal Gear Solid. Additionally, he once toured the former gaming convention E3 with prominent gaming journalist and Video Game Awards presenter Geoff Keighley.
His comments about The Last of Us Part II arrive as HBO prepares to launch the second season of their adaptation, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, scheduled for release this year. While critics praised the second game, it sparked heated debates among the gaming community online.
Specifically, certain fans were upset about the destiny of a cherished character, while others objected to the shift in focus to Ellie, a young lesbian protagonist. Further controversy arose from director Neil Druckmann’s political stance, particularly when he contributed to both Israeli and Palestinian emergency relief efforts in October 2023.
There’s speculation that Ye might also be anticipating Naughty Dog’s recently announced game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which will feature music composed by Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
