André 3000 is expanding his acting portfolio with a new role that takes him into the Scooby-Doo universe.
The OutKast rapper, whose real name is André Benjamin, has joined the cast of Netflix’s upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins in a recurring role, according to Deadline. The series is currently set to debut globally in 2027.
Details about Benjamin’s character have not yet been revealed.
The role represents a full-circle moment for André 3000, who previously contributed music to the soundtrack of the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo film. He also has experience in children’s entertainment, having co-created and starred in Cartoon Network’s animated series Class of 3000.
Throughout his career, Three Stacks has built an impressive acting résumé alongside his music success, appearing in movies including Idlewild, Four Brothers, Be Cool, High Life, and White Noise. He also took on the role of legendary musician Jimi Hendrix in 2013’s Jimi: All Is By My Side, earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination for his performance.
André 3000 is not the only new name joining Scooby-Doo: Origins. Oscar-nominated Raging Bull actress Cathy Moriarty has also been cast in a recurring role, though details about her character remain unknown.
Netflix has already revealed the young actors taking on the iconic Mystery Inc. crew. Maxwell Jenkins will portray Fred Jones, Tanner Hagen will play Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson will take on the role of Velma Dinkley, and Mckenna Grace will portray Daphne Blake.
Paul Walter Hauser has also joined the series in an undisclosed role, while Sara Gilbert, Bruce McGill, Sherilyn Fenn, Peter Macon, Avery Kristen Pohl, and Wynn Everett are among the additional cast members.
The series will also bring a major change to the franchise by featuring Scooby-Doo as an actual Great Dane puppy instead of a fully animated character.
Production on Scooby-Doo: Origins began in Atlanta in April. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are serving as writers, showrunners, and executive producers, with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television behind the project. Toby Haynes is directing the premiere episode.
The upcoming series will arrive 25 years after the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo movie, which was followed by Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed in 2004.
Netflix has not yet announced a specific release date for Scooby-Doo: Origins, but the series is expected to premiere in 2027.
