The battle over Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s estate appears to have caused a serious rift within his family beyond the courtroom. Pamela Warner, the late actor’s mother and longtime manager, alleges that his widow, Tenisha Warner, “terminated” her relationship with 9-year-old MacKenzie after Malcolm’s sudden death last year.
Pamela made the allegation in new court documents obtained by TMZ, as she challenged Tenisha’s handling of their increasingly contentious estate dispute. She insists that she has no “ill-will” toward her daughter-in-law and says she does not understand what is behind her actions.
The family’s home has also become part of the ongoing dispute.
Tenisha previously criticized Pamela for selling Malcolm’s Los Angeles property, arguing that he intended the home for his wife and daughter. Pamela has now pushed back, saying keeping the property was not financially practical. According to her filing, the estate was facing roughly $9,000 in monthly carrying costs without enough funds to continue covering them.
Then there’s the larger question at the heart of the dispute: what did Malcolm actually want?
Tenisha has argued that the 1996 trust Pamela is administering was established decades before Malcolm married her and before MacKenzie was born. She previously accused Pamela of “purposeful misrepresentation” and claimed she used “unfair pressure and tactics” in an effort to secure a settlement. Tenisha also alleged that Pamela withheld access to a retirement account worth approximately $2.4 million unless she agreed to the proposed settlement terms.
Pamela, however, has presented a very different version of events. She contends that Malcolm intended for his mother to receive a portion of his estate, citing their extremely close bond and the decades she spent helping oversee his career. Her filing reportedly dismisses Tenisha’s argument that Pamela should receive nothing from the estate.
Meanwhile, Pamela has seemingly bypassed Tenisha in settlement negotiations. She reached a proposed agreement directly with MacKenzie’s court-appointed guardian and is now asking a judge to approve it.
Previous filings indicated that under the proposed arrangement, MacKenzie would receive the vast majority of the trust and estate, while Pamela would receive a one-time distribution.
Tenisha’s separate dispute centers on Malcolm’s 2022 premarital agreement. She claims he still owed more than $1.2 million in promised financial obligations when he accidentally drowned in Costa Rica in July 2025 at age 54.
Those claims include life insurance benefits and compensation for Tenisha’s work as his chief of staff.
