Taylor Swift surprised fans this week by announcing “Patient Zero” along with an expanded edition of The Life of a Showgirl. Now, she’s giving fans their first glimpse of what’s coming next.
On Thursday, Swift shared a preview from the song’s music video on Instagram, simply captioning the clip, “This Sunday,” while tagging the VMAs.
The Video Music Awards are scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. ET, and CBS and MTV have confirmed that the “Patient Zero” music video will make its world premiere during the ceremony. Directed by Swift, the visual stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell, both of whom are featured in the preview she posted Thursday.
The footage carries a similar aesthetic to what fans saw during Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department era, including a scene of Swift and Johnson standing beside a snow-covered gravesite. Other clips show Swift at a sink, two people diving into a body of water, and Swift and Johnson standing beside a statue.
Swift and Johnson have been friends for some time. Swift previously wrote an essay about the actress when Johnson was featured on Time magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world.
“As her friend, I can vouch for her realness, but add that she’s also one of the most empathetic people I’ve ever known,” Swift stated.
Swift first broke the news on Tuesday when she announced that she would release a new single on Friday. Then, on Wednesday, she revealed that fans can expect even more new music.
