Kelly Clarkson is calling out a Brooklyn store over what she described as an unpleasant experience during a recent shopping trip.
On Saturday (Oct. 10), the Grammy-winning singer and talk show host took to X to criticize Art of Play, a specialty store in Brooklyn, alleging that an employee assumed she couldn’t afford the items she wanted to buy.
Clarkson said she had traveled across New York City specifically to visit the shop, only to walk away disappointed by her interaction with a salesperson.
“Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me,” Clarkson wrote.
She added, “Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale. But y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out”
Clarkson’s mention of the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman refers to a famous scene in which Julia Roberts’ character, Vivian Ward, is turned away by employees at an upscale boutique because of how she looks.
The singer appeared to suggest that she faced a similar experience, alleging that the salesperson judged whether she could afford the products instead of helping her find the items she wanted.
Clarkson’s post quickly gained attention online, with Art of Play subsequently receiving a wave of negative reviews on Google.
According to Page Six, Art of Play declined to comment when approached about the incident.
