Drake’s track “Janice STFU” has come under scrutiny amid a lawsuit filed by songwriter Aviel Hirschfield. Hirschfield claims he created a demo for the song and alleges that Drake used its hook without giving him songwriting credit.
According to the songwriter, he took the original instrumental melody produced by FnZ and wrote a song over it. He then reportedly sent the track back to the producer duo, who allegedly forwarded it to Drake. Hirschfield claims the hook from his demo was later used word for word in “Janice STFU.”
Over the weekend, a representative for Drake firmly dismissed the lawsuit as baseless, reportedly stating that the Canadian superstar does not even know who Hirschfield is.
However, on Monday evening, Hirschfield’s alleged demo surfaced publicly as part of the evidence submitted in the lawsuit. Several accounts on X began sharing the clip, which has since generated millions of impressions online.
As expected, the alleged demo has sparked heated reactions online. Some Drake fans are questioning whether the recording is authentic, with some suggesting it could be AI-generated, while others believe it may simply be Drake’s voice slowed down.
However, the clip shared above only features the hook, which is the disputed section at the heart of the lawsuit. Other posts circulating online feature the full four-minute recording, complete with several additional verses and bridges.
The Internet Reacts
Meanwhile, others believe the allegations reflect poorly on Drake. Several users have taken to X to argue that he should have paid Hirschfield or at least acknowledged him with songwriting credit.
Of course, these reactions are based on the assumption that Drake took the hook without permission. It’s important to note, however, that the claim remains an allegation at this stage. Nothing has been proven in court, and Drake continues to deny any wrongdoing.
