Jennifer Lopez is reportedly getting heavily involved behind the scenes of her upcoming Netflix thriller, with the alleged situation drawing surprising comparisons to Blake Lively.
According to Page Six, Lopez has allegedly clashed with Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis over the final cut of The Last Mrs. Parrish. The $100 million thriller reportedly failed to meet expectations during test screenings.
“She’s tried to take it over. She fancies herself a filmmaker,” a Hollywood insider told the outlet. “It’s been testing terrible. Lopez panicked and has been in the editing room. Behind the scenes, everyone’s saying it’s a Blake Lively [situation].”
The comparison draws on Blake Lively’s widely publicized dispute with It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni. Lively reportedly put together her own version of the 2024 film, which differed from the cut Baldoni preferred. Their creative differences eventually escalated into a much broader legal battle.
Another insider alleged that Lopez had essentially taken charge of the editing process, while a separate source offered a different perspective on why she was reportedly getting involved.
“She’s taking over… But she’s just trying to salvage the movie,” the source said.
Netflix, however, has pushed back against claims that the film is underperforming.
“The film tested well, particularly with fans of Jennifer,” the streaming platform stated.
Lopez, Zemeckis, and Netflix also released a joint statement denying the reports. “As we have said to Page Six, this reporting is categorically false. Any suggestion that the filmmakers are not working in unison is without merit.”
The reported tension revolves around The Last Mrs. Parrish, an adaptation of the bestselling thriller starring Lopez, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Isabel May.
May portrays a con artist who works her way into the lives of a wealthy couple, played by Lopez and Coster-Waldau, with the intention of taking the wife’s place. However, her plan takes an unexpected turn when she discovers that her target has secrets of her own.
Zemeckis, known for directing Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, and Cast Away, reportedly worked with Lopez on editing the film last week. The project is expected to continue toward its planned 2027 release.
The allegations have also brought renewed scrutiny to Lopez’s professional reputation.
Her self-funded This Is Me… Now project and its accompanying documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, previously faced criticism from viewers who felt the production was excessive and out of touch with her public image.
Despite the backlash, Lopez has continued working with Netflix, appearing in The Mother, Atlas, and the 2026 romantic comedy Office Romance, alongside Brett Goldstein. She is now reportedly “casually dating” Goldstein after months of denials.
