Lil Baby Admits He Wasn’t Feeling ‘It’s Only Me’: ‘I Hated Those Songs’

Lil Baby’s opening up about not wanting to drop his third album It’s Only Me because his head wasn’t in the right place.

Chatting with Complex, the Atlanta rapper admitted he wasn’t feeling his 2022 album It’s Only Me. Even though it hit No. 1 on Billboard 200, critics weren’t exactly blown away.

Baby says he didn’t vibe with most of the tracks, and only dropped it because his label was pushing for new music.

“I didn’t even want to put It’s Only Me out at the time, because I wasn’t ready,” Lil Baby explained. “I wasn’t in [the right] headspace. Those were songs I was just making, but it was nothing that I really loved, and nothing I even really liked. So it was at a point where, if it was up to me, I would’ve never dropped [It’s Only Me].”

He talked about going back and forth with Quality Control Records, who kept pushing him to release it.

“So I just dropped, but I wasn’t in the right headspace to drop at all,” he added. “I hated those songs. To this day, a couple of those songs I like, but I don’t even go to them songs, because you know how some music could take you to a time and place, and you don’t even want to go to that place anymore? I’m on a whole different process.”

Beyond hitting the Billboard 200’s top spot, It’s Only Me pulled in some serious numbers – 216,000 album-equivalent units in week one (with 6,500 pure album sales) and a massive 288.97 million official streams. Those streaming numbers ranked third-highest for any album drop in 2022.
