Hov’s attorneys just dropped new paperwork claiming Tony Buzbee never sat down with the woman before launching her rape case against the rap mogul.
During a Wednesday filing, Jay’s crew blasted Buzbee as a subpar lawyer who’d rather sweep the lawsuit’s factual holes under the rug. They pointed out he hadn’t even met the accuser before putting his signature on the legal docs and chatting with NBC News last December.
The fresh documents, which Complex got their hands on, state: “Initially, he deflected, saying Plaintiff’s ‘case was referred to [his] firm by another, who vetted it prior to sending it’ to him, and that his firm would ‘continue to vet her claims and collect corroborating data.” They also revealed, “Now, he concedes that he did not even meet with Plaintiff before signing his name to the complaint, and fails to identify any evidence that corroborates anything his client alleged.”
Jay’s legal squad emphasized that “Mr. Carter seeks only to hold Mr. Buzbee to the ethical standards that constrain any responsible attorney who would solemnly sign his name to allegations in court.”
Buzbee fired back at TMZ Wednesday, brushing off the lawsuit as “weak and desperate” and insisting that he and four other attorneys did interview the woman.
This latest move follows Jay-Z’s push for penalties against Buzbee over his questionable legal practices. Through his attorney Alex Spiro, Jay’s team argued Buzbee didn’t properly check out the woman’s story.
The legal crew wants to toss out the suit, which claims Jay-Z and Diddy sexually assaulted a teen back in 2000. Jay has shot down the accusations, labeling Buzbee a “fraud” and an “ambulance chaser in a cheap suit.”
Jay’s attorney has highlighted several holes in the accuser’s tale and made it crystal clear his client isn’t tied to Diddy. During a December press conference addressing the rape claims, Jay-Z’s lawyer Alex Spiro stated flat out: “Mr. Carter has nothing to do with Mr. Combs’ case or Mr. Combs.”
