Usher’s got some words of wisdom for Kendrick Lamar – telling him to “savor” his moment as the Super Bowl LIX halftime show’s main act.
Stopping by The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday, the R&B superstar shared his thoughts on Kendrick’s big gig.
“I haven’t had the chance to catch up with him and tell him, one, how excited I am,” Usher said about the 22-time Grammy champ.
Here’s what Usher told Kendrick after chatting with the show’s producers and K.Dot’s creative team – “savor the moment.”
“‘Cause you get obsessed in trying to build the best performance but you don’t realize that it’s really about enjoying it,” he continued.
“It might not be perfect, everything may not go exactly the way it’s supposed to but if you are in your mind and like stuck trying to make something perfect you’re not going to look up and smell the flowers And realize, ‘Wait a minute, I’m here. And I get a chance to have this moment and I’m not going to get it again, I’m not going to get this moment back.'”
He wrapped up saying, “So my encouragement to him is to really be present and I hope that he uses the moment well.”
Usher praised Kendrick as a “benchmark for what it is to be an artist.”
The R&B star called his own Super Bowl gig the “top of the top,” noting that “everybody wants that moment.”
“You want to know that you’ve amassed enough of a catalog to play for an entire world,” he added. No matter how many stages you’re on, you’re never going to play for a bigger audience.”
His show brought out some major stars – Ludacris, Lil Jon, H.E.R., Alicia Keys and Jermaine Dupri all hit the stage with him.
Kendrick’s up next, hitting the Caesars Superdome stage on Sunday (February 9) when the Kansas City Chiefs face off against the Philadelphia Eagles
