Turns out Lil Wayne was clueless about “Tweaker” before hopping on the remix with Gelo.
During a livestream with Tyga to hype up the new NSFW album, Wayne confessed he was totally out of the loop on the viral hit. “I knew nothing about that until I was approached for the feature,” he admitted.
“I do watch a lot of sports television and they were making a bunch of references to it and I didn’t know what the hell they were walking about,” Wayne said, adding that he finally connected the dots afterward.
Weezy shared a funny moment about Gelo wanting changes to his verse. “Shout out Gelo. You gotta let ’em know how I had [to redo] my verse,” Wayne revealed. “Gelo is demanding, by the way. These new ni**as! Usually, I’ll give somebody a verse, and, by the grace of God, they love it. That man called me and said, ‘Ay, man. Can you change this part, man?'”
Before dropping the track, Gelo told Billboard how wild it was working with Wayne: “We got Lil Wayne getting on there, Legend. The GOAT. You know I had to, for real. That’s like hooping with Jordan. No cap.”
“I hit him up on [Instagram and told him], ‘Your verse hard as hell. That’s what we [were] missing on our shit,'” Ball added. “He was a cool dude. He was like, ‘I hope you mess with the verse.’ He’s cool. But yeah – that verse is tough.”
Wayne came in hot with the bars: “Weezy F., and the F is for features, baby,” followed by “I went from the bleachers, baby, to beaches, baby/To each his own, gotta own, I can’t lease it, baby/I’m beastin’, baby, I beast like I’m obese and lazy/ And if they sleepin’ on a GOAT, they countin’ sheep then, baby.”
“Tweaker” is making waves as hip-hop’s first big hit of 2025, hitting the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and reaching No. 29 on the Hot 100.
