J. Cole Brings in Wiz Khalifa for “Clouds” Remix: ‘He Been on a Wave’

J. Cole and Wiz Khalifa have joined forces on the remix to Cole’s track, “Clouds.”

The unexpected collaboration landed Thursday (March 6) through Cole’s new blog, The Algorithm. “Wiz skating. TGOD. And he been on a wave,” Cole wrote, giving props to Wiz’s recent flood of mixtapes and freestyles.

Cole also dropped a link to Wiz’s song “Jill Scott,” featuring Premo Rice, Harry Fraud and Curren$y.

And Cole clearly knows his Wiz history. “Clouds” samples the Kush & Orange Juice fan-favorite “Never Been.”

Cole initially released “Clouds” on Feb. 20, a track that tackles political issues and global concerns, including Donald Trump’s assassination attempt, AI’s growing influence, and economic inequality.

“I’m that bass in your trunk, the bullet that missed Trump / The gun that jammed ’cause it seemed God had other plans,” he rapped.

He continued: “Don’t buy, subscribe so you can just stream your content / Like rent, you won’t own a thing / Before long, all the songs the whole world sings’ll be generated by latest of AI regimes / As all of our favorite artists erased by it scream / From the wayside, ‘Aye, whatever happened to human beings?'” he spit.

The two rappers first collaborated on the remix of Yo Gotti’s 2010 track “Look in the Mirror” from the Strictly 4 Traps n Trunks 8 project.
