The “So Sick” hitmaker, currently dating four women, stopped by Big Boy’s Neighborhood this week, and around the 40-minute mark in the video below, he discussed juggling his relationships.
When Big Boy asked if the women were aware of each other, Ne-Yo replied, “Absolutely, yeah. That’s the beauty of it.”
“I wasted so much time and money just lying for nothing,” the 3-time Grammy winner added. “If I had known… Of course, you hear all the time, honesty is the best policy, you go, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, all right I’ma go ahead and tell this lie and keep this secret but I realize now that if I had just been honest from the jump, I could have saved myself a whole bunch of headache and heartache and everything else.”
Regarding how he approaches women about his needs, Ne-Yo said he had to “draw his line in the sand.” “You go, ‘Listen, this is what it is, this is what it’s not and and let her make the choice. You’ll find the ones that that that rock the way you rock.”
Ne-Yo also mentioned that while his girlfriends don’t live with him, he keeps them “very close,” though he spends most of his time with his seven kids. He has three children with ex-wife Crystal Renay, two with Sade Jenea Bagnerise, and his two oldest with former fiancée Monyetta Shaw-Carter.
The singer revealed that one girlfriend has been around for “a few years,” longer than the others. “I just basically decided after my divorce I decided you know what I ain’t lying to nobody no more,” he explained. “I hurt a lot of people with just being dishonest about things that I could have been honest about so I’m not doing that no more.”
Ne-Yo said he took his original girlfriend to dinner with the other women, where he noticed they “got along.”
“I feel like it’s because I led with honesty I let it be known, ‘Listen, I like you but I also like her and I also like her. so here’s what I want to do I want to bring this whole thing together. If you with it cool, if you’re not that’s cool too, no love lost.”
He then explained that when he cheated in the past, women were upset because he took their “choice away.” “I never understood what that meant, ’cause it’s like, Why would any woman choose to share?” he said. “But to be honest, when you lead with the option, ‘I’m not forcing you to do anything I’m not misleading you…that’s what works.'”
He also broke down his tour schedule with his girlfriends, sharing that they join him for seven days each before all meeting up together.
Ne-Yo divorced Renay in 2022 after four years of marriage and has since openly embraced the polyamorous lifestyle.
