Marvel gave Jenna Ortega an early break that almost crushed her acting dreams.
The star of A24’s new comedy-horror Death of a Unicorn was asked about joining the MCU during a press junket with co-star Paul Rudd. Turns out, Ortega already made a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it MCU appearance in Iron Man 3 as a child actor.
“I did it once,” Ortega revealed. “It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg and I’m the vice president’s daughter.”
Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the MCU, gives his take and hints that Ortega might soon get offered a bigger role.
“Marvel is very good at like, kind of laying those bread crumbs,” he said. “And so it might very well be that you come back. That they are going to create something for you, cause they should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise.”
But Ortega, still salty about her Iron Man experience, isn’t buying it. “They even took my name away,” she fires back. “I count that, then I move on.”
Even if Marvel comes knocking again, the 22-year-old star is already swamped with projects, including The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow. With two other films in the pipeline and Netflix’s Wednesday coming back for season two, Ortega’s dance card is pretty full.
