Fetty Wap has dropped his first solo track in over two years, naming it after his prison ID number while serving a six-year federal drug sentence – and the video highlights a campaign to free him. The rapper’s been locked up since October 2021 after pleading guilty, with the song featuring samples of news clips about his arrest and conviction.
Named “Forever (71943509),” the track comes with a music video showcasing archive footage of Fetty in studio sessions and performing concerts.
“Look deep into my soul and feel this pain,” he sings emotionally in the song.
The number 71943-509 is Fetty’s official Bureau of Prisons registration number. He’s currently locked up at FCI Sandstone, a low-security federal facility in Sandstone, Minnesota, with a release date set for March 9, 2027.
The video concludes with a plea for Fetty’s release, with the YouTube description linking to a petition seeking a presidential pardon or sentence reduction.
“Unfortunately, there have been many misunderstandings surrounding his current legal situation,” the petition states. “Contrary to widespread and often exaggerated headlines, Fetty Wap was not charged with trafficking multiple substances or leading a drug operation. He pleaded guilty to a single count: conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. That is the only charge for which he currently serves a federal sentence.”
Last month, his sister called for the rapper’s sentence to be shortened so he could come home to his family. “He is scheduled to be released in 2027, but justice should also mean mercy,” she wrote on his Instagram. “His sentence should be commuted so he can come home to his family, his children, and his purpose. It’s time.”
