Tyler, the Creator Slams Podcast Overload: ‘Everyone’s Got a Mic Now… We Need More Electricians’

Tyler, the Creator isn’t holding back when it comes to his thoughts on the podcast explosion.

In a recent chat with The Cut, the two-time Grammy winner doubled down on his past remarks about wanting to ban podcasts altogether. “I think we give a lot of people who aren’t smart and just want attention platforms to be loud and incorrect, and other stupid people follow them,” he said.

He continued by calling for a shift in focus: “Where are the people with skills? We need electricians, we need more drummers, painters, teachers. Everybody with a mic is crazy. I just think that shit is gross.”

Still, Tyler made it clear he’s not against all podcasts. He shouted out two he actually respects—Deante Kyle’s Grit & Eggs Podcast and Recho Omondi’s The Cutting Room Floor—calling them “sick” and “in the right direction.”

Back in December, Tyler, the Creator didn’t mince words when he joked about what his first move would be if he ever became president.

“If I was president, the first thing I would do is take podcast mics away from n***as,” he told Billboard’s Rembert Browne, doubling down on his criticism of the podcast craze.

Meanwhile, Tyler has been hitting the road in support of his latest album, Chromakopia. During a chat with Converse in London this past May, the 34-year-old opened up about how touring has changed for him over the years.

“Touring now at 34 is not as fun as it was at 20,” he shared. “The unfamiliarity, a different bed every night, the food—I’m not from this side of the world, so as much time as I spend on thinking about where I’m going to eat, bro it’s draining.”

Still, he said the energy from fans makes it all worth it: “What makes up for it is that these shows are incredible, and the people are excited.”
