Pusha T Reflects on His Relationship With Kanye West: ‘We’re Only Good for Music, Nothing More’

Pusha T is reflecting on his time working with the artist formerly known as Kanye West, admitting that while they created some “great music” together, their connection was strictly professional.

Speaking on the latest episode of the New York Times’ Popcast alongside his brother Malice, Pusha opened up about their upcoming album and the journey that brought them back into the studio. When asked about his experiences with Ye, specifically if he regretted not speaking up more during controversial moments—Pusha shut it down.

“It was only me,” he said. “I don’t even know if I’ve ever held my tongue. I always spoke to everything. What you do with that information or advice, that’s on you. But nah, I don’t regret any of it. We made great music. It was a great time.”

Pusha made it clear he’s always been self-sufficient. “I’ve always had motion. I never had to sit up under anybody,” he explained.

He then got candid about the limits of his relationship with Ye. “We ain’t the same outside of music. We’re nothing. We can’t be anything outside of music. Music is where we click,” he said. “His principles, his morals, his mindset—we don’t see eye to eye, hardly ever. And we never have.”
