Cardi B took to X on Tuesday night to share her thoughts on the case surrounding Karmelo Anthony.
Karmelo Anthony was found guilty on Tuesday in the fatal stabbing of fellow high school track athlete Austin Metcalf. The highly publicized case drew national attention after Anthony argued that he acted in self-defense during the 2025 incident at a track meet.
According to PEOPLE, the jury returned a guilty verdict on the murder charge after deliberating for roughly three hours. Anthony was subsequently sentenced to 35 years behind bars.
The verdict has sparked intense debate online, with many critics questioning the outcome. Some have pointed to cases involving Kyle Rittenhouse and George Zimmerman, both of whom were acquitted after claiming self-defense. In Anthony’s case, however, jurors determined that he had initiated the confrontation, making a self-defense argument inapplicable under the law.
Cardi B was among those unhappy with the decision, taking to X to express her frustration over the outcome.
“Wow! Just freakin wow! DISGUSTING… This is not justice, this is trying to make an example!!!” Cardi B posted on X, sharing a reaction that mirrored the feelings of many people who closely followed the case.
The sentence has continued to fuel debate online, with some critics questioning whether factors beyond the facts of the case may have influenced the outcome, including concerns about the jury’s composition.
After the sentencing, Austin Metcalf’s mother, Meghan, addressed Anthony directly in court. “You may have just been given a sentence of 35 years; you should feel lucky because I’ve been sentenced to a life without my son,” she said.
Austin’s twin brother, Hunter Metcalf, also delivered an emotional statement. Speaking to Anthony, he said, “Now I want everything taken from you. You took everything from me. I wake up every morning and his door is still shut.”
The remarks highlighted the lasting grief felt by the Metcalf family as they continue to cope with Austin’s death.
