Ed Sheeran Reveals How KATSEYE Inspired Him to Create Their Single ‘Animal’

Ed Sheeran recently opened up about how KATSEYE’s breakout track “Gnarly” motivated him to connect with the rising global girl group and create their new single, “Animal.”

The 35-year-old singer-songwriter shared a behind-the-scenes video on Tuesday (July 28), revealing the story behind how the collaboration came together.

“I heard @katseyeworld’s song ‘Gnarly’ last year when I was in Mexico and loved it,” Sheeran wrote on Instagram. “Said I was a fan and reached out to them to see if I could write them a song. We’ve created ‘Animal’ together, go check it out gang and hope you all love it.”

The video gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the process, showing the “Shape of You” singer creating the demo before KATSEYE members Lara Raj, Daniela Avanzini, and Megan Skiendiel record their vocals in the studio.

The group, which also features Sophia Laforteza and Yoonchae Jeung, has continued performing as a five-member act after Manon Bannerman stepped away earlier this year due to health reasons.

“Animal” serves as the pre-release single for KATSEYE’s upcoming EP, WILD. The five-track project, which also features the single “Pinky Up,” is scheduled to arrive on Aug. 14.

The music video for “Animal” continues KATSEYE’s trend of featuring unexpected celebrity cameos, with Demi Moore making an appearance in the latest visual. The group previously brought star power to their 2025 hit “Gabriela,” which featured a cameo from Jessica Alba.

KATSEYE’s Wildworld Tour is set to kick off in September, with the group scheduled to perform at sold-out arenas across North America and Europe. Meanwhile, their new documentary, KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS, is set to premiere in theaters on Aug. 12.
