A new BBC documentary exploring allegations against Jared Leto features claims from 10 women, including four who accuse the Oscar-winning actor and musician of criminal sexual conduct linked to incidents they say happened while they were teenagers.
Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, which premieres Wednesday (July 29), includes interviews with women who allege inappropriate behavior involving the 54-year-old actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman. According to the BBC, nine of the women are sharing their stories publicly for the first time.
One woman alleges that Leto sexually assaulted her in a motel bathroom when she was 17. Another claims that when she was 19, Leto threatened her with sexual assault.
A third woman alleges she had sexual relations with Leto in California when she was 17, which was below the state’s age of consent. She claims that after the issue of California’s consent laws was brought up, Leto dismissed her concerns.
A fourth woman says Leto repeatedly made sexually explicit phone calls to her when she was 16 and allegedly suggested they have sex during one of those conversations.
The documentary states that the BBC reviewed a nondisclosure agreement the fourth woman says she was asked to sign in exchange for keeping quiet about her relationship with Leto. She reportedly refused to sign the agreement.
Four other women featured in the documentary accuse Leto of making what they described as “strange” and often sexual phone calls when they were younger.
The women interviewed claim their alleged encounters with Leto happened between 2002 and 2016, during a period when the actor was in his 30s and 40s. One woman said in the documentary, “This was 25 years ago… he has gotten away with it.”
The BBC reported that it verified parts of several women’s accounts through interviews with friends and family members who were informed about the alleged incidents at the time. The broadcaster also said it reviewed photos and messages that it believes support some of the women’s claims.
The documentary also features interviews with two former Thirty Seconds to Mars employees who allege that some staff members were uncomfortable with Leto’s interactions with teenage girls. The former employees claim Leto would sometimes invite teenage girls backstage, into his dressing room, or to the house where the band was recording.
“I think everyone thought the age gap was way too big,” one former staff member said in the film.
The documentary adds to previous allegations that have been made against Leto. In 2025, Los Angeles DJ Allie Teilz publicly accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was 17. Her allegations were later followed by an Air Mail report in which nine women accused the actor of inappropriate behavior over several years.
Leto has previously denied allegations of misconduct.
