During his controversial Stake livestream on Saturday night, Drake had a warning for anyone thinking about coming at him. The rapper declared that the “pen isn’t dry,” suggesting he’s still ready to lyrically take on anyone who challenges him. While the statement sounded like a bold declaration, not everyone was convinced.
On a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, Joe Budden dismissed Drake’s comments, arguing that they felt out of touch given everything the rapper has faced in recent months.
Budden pointed to Drake’s highly publicized battle with Kendrick Lamar and the legal issues that followed, saying those events show Drake isn’t in a position to challenge hip-hop’s top lyricists.
“He lost his last 2 battles, he needs to shut up,” Budden said. “He can talk that talk to Lil Yachty or drill rappers, but it’s over with MCs.”
As the discussion went on, Budden asked his co-hosts who they believed Drake was referring to. When they suggested Jay-Z, Budden quickly dismissed the idea, arguing that Drake doesn’t belong in that conversation.
“He’s not that dumb to be talking to Jay-Z. Jay’s pen is the holy grail,” Budden said.
While Budden’s take is likely to spark debate, it’s worth noting that Jay-Z hasn’t engaged in a rap battle in years, making it difficult to predict how such a matchup would actually play out.
For now, it’s unclear whether tensions between Drake and Jay-Z will develop into a full-blown rap feud. Although fans have pointed to recent signs that could fuel speculation, nothing has been confirmed, leaving many to simply wait and see what happens next.
