Eddie Murphy’s son Myles Murphy is following in his father’s footsteps by entering the world of stand-up comedy. The 33-year-old recently surprised audiences with a performance at New York City’s West Side Comedy Club, quietly working toward building a comedy career of his own.
Myles has reportedly been performing stand-up for less than a year, but his New York appearance was not his first experience on stage. According to Page Six, the screenwriter has already taken the mic at multiple comedy clubs across Los Angeles and is set to perform at the Laugh Factory’s Spotlight Special showcase.
“Performing comedy was something he’s always wanted to do,” a source told the outlet. Another person who attended his New York performance shared, “He got up, did his set, and he’s really good.”
The family connection became part of the moment after Myles stepped off stage. Backstage, comedian and author Jeffrey Gurian spent nearly an hour sharing stories about Eddie Murphy’s early days in New York’s comedy scene, including some moments Myles had reportedly never heard before.
One of the stories involved Eddie’s early years on Saturday Night Live. Gurian recalled how Joe Piscopo was originally asked to fill about five minutes during an episode that came up short, but instead suggested that producers give the opportunity to Eddie.
At the time, Murphy was still a featured player and was reportedly hesitant about performing his stand-up material on television because of his use of profanity.
The moment eventually played a major role in Eddie’s career at SNL. Gurian explained that Murphy’s manager, the late Comic Strip owner Richie Tienken, later referenced the performance during contract negotiations, helping Eddie transition from featured player to a full-time cast member.
Eddie’s ties to the Comic Strip extended beyond his own success. Gurian also shared stories with Myles about Chris Rock’s early performances at the venue and how Eddie helped bring attention to the future comedy legend.
For Myles, stepping into stand-up represents a rare public move. Eddie’s fourth child and one of five children he shares with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell Murphy, Myles has largely kept a quieter profile compared to his famous father and some of his siblings. He works as a screenwriter and is also a father of two.
Myles and his wife, Carly Fink, welcomed their daughter Evie Isla in 2019, making Eddie a grandfather for the first time. Their second daughter, Zuri Liv, was born in 2024.
Now, Myles is exploring the same art form that helped launch Eddie’s legendary career decades ago. Before Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America, and his blockbuster movie success, Eddie Murphy started as a teenager performing stand-up in New York. He joined SNL at 19 and later released iconic comedy specials like Delirious and Raw, which became defining moments in his comedy legacy.
