It has been more than three years since the tragic passing of YNG Cheese, the son of Gillie Da Kid, who was killed in a shooting in Philadelphia. Throughout the years, Gillie has continued honoring his son’s memory while openly sharing his grief in hopes of supporting others who have experienced the pain of losing a child. Recently, he shared an emotional message in a video recorded at Cheese’s gravesite.
“To anybody that’s lost a child, my heart will always be with you. Always. Understand this, it never gets better. So when people say it gets better with time, it don’t get better,” he said through tears. “But when you need to let that sh*t out, you let it out, you hear me? You let it out. And after you get it out, it’s chin up and chest out.”
Although his son’s case has not resulted in justice, Gillie Da Kid revealed during an interview last year that police had informed him of who may have been connected to YNG Cheese’s shooting. Noah Scurry, a local basketball standout in Philadelphia, was reportedly killed outside his home in 2025. However, while speaking with Shannon Sharpe, Gillie claimed authorities told him Scurry was among the individuals they were preparing to arrest in connection with the murder.
“Only reason I knew is because the police called me and told me once he was murdered,” he said. “‘Cause the kid had just got shot 17 times he was walking with his mom and he got murdered and then the police notified me and let me know that he was one of the kids that was pretty much about to get locked up for the murder, but he got murdered first.”
