Lil Durk is speaking publicly for the first time since being found not guilty on all counts in his high-profile murder-for-hire case, while 6ix9ine is using the moment to mock the fact that Durk remains behind bars for now.
“Against all odds, we’re stronger together,” Durk wrote in an Instagram post featuring a photo of his legal team. “Allah doesn’t make mistakes. I feel all the love and positive energy. Now let me be free to help save our kids and bring unity back to our communities. I couldn’t have made it this far without my family, my lawyers, and supporters. Freedom. Freedom. Freedom.”
Rival rapper 6ix9ine, who, unlike Durk, does not have a Grammy and has not appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2022, took the opportunity to troll his longtime rival in the comments.
“How come you still locked up right now I don’t get it if you won?” he wrote. “Someone explain. #freedom.”
Durk remains behind bars despite being cleared in the murder-for-hire case because he is still awaiting trial on a separate racketeering charge tied to the 2022 shooting death of Stephon Mack. That trial is currently set to begin on Oct. 5, meaning Durk is expected to remain in custody until those proceedings are completed.
The jury in Durk’s murder-for-hire trial spent more than two days deliberating before ultimately finding him not guilty on all five counts. The charges included conspiracy to commit stalking; stalking Quando Rondo with a dangerous weapon; stalking resulting in Saviay’a Robinson’s death; conspiracy to use interstate commerce facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death; and use of interstate commerce facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death.
On Friday (Sept. 11), 6ix9ine reacted to the verdict by posting a video that appeared to mock Durk’s continued incarceration. “Von dead Dthang dead Durk still in prison,” he captioned the footage, which showed him setting off fireworks. The post referenced the deaths of Durk’s close collaborator King Von and his late brother, Dontay “DThang” Banks.
Although 6ix9ine clearly appeared unhappy about Durk’s not-guilty verdict, plenty of others took to social media to celebrate the outcome. Among those showing support for Durk were the artist formerly known as Kanye West, Drake, G Herbo, Boosie Badazz, and Young Thug, who was previously represented by Durk’s attorney Brian Steele during his own RICO trial.
