Kim Kardashian has received exactly what she requested nearly a decade after she was bound, gagged and robbed at gunpoint in Paris: one euro.
According to The Associated Press, a Paris court awarded Kardashian the symbolic €1, worth around $1.15, on Tuesday in connection with the 2016 jewelry heist, which she has described as “the most terrifying experience of my life.”
The modest award was not the result of the court rejecting a larger damages claim. Kardashian had specifically asked for just one euro, seeking acknowledgment of the ordeal rather than a financial payout.
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us,” Kardashian and her stylist Simone Harouche said in a joint statement. “Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.”
Harouche, who was also inside the Hôtel de Pourtalès when the robbery occurred, likewise requested and received €1.
The ruling comes more than a year after Kardashian returned to Paris to testify against members of the crew behind the October 2016 attack. Eight people were eventually convicted for their roles in the robbery, which took place while Kardashian was in the city for Fashion Week.
Several of the defendants were already elderly by the time they went to trial, leading to the group being dubbed “les papys braqueurs,” or “the grandpa robbers,” in France. None of those convicted returned to prison because their sentences were covered by time they had already spent in pretrial detention, and none appealed the verdicts.
Kardashian testified that two men posing as police officers entered her suite before restraining her with zip ties and tape. The robbers fled with more than $6 million worth of jewelry, including a diamond ring Kardashian had been wearing earlier that night.
She has repeatedly discussed how she feared she would be killed during the attack and how the experience permanently changed her approach to security and wearing expensive jewelry in public. Following last year’s convictions, Kardashian said the incident had a “lasting impact on me and my family.”
The ruling also awarded significantly larger damages to other people affected by the robbery. A former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, who said he experienced trauma after being confronted during the heist, was awarded €109,516, while the hotel received €50,000.
Kardashian and Harouche, meanwhile, said they hope the latest ruling will finally allow them to move past the legal proceedings.
“We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process,” their statement continued, “and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”
The decision comes just weeks after Kardashian encountered another security incident closer to home. In August, a 27-year-old man was arrested after allegedly breaking into her Hidden Hills property, taking valuables and briefly driving away in one of her vehicles for a “joyride.”
Kardashian and her children were reportedly staying at another location while renovations were being carried out at the home.
