If you opened TikTok this week and briefly thought T-Pain was filming from a hospital room, you definitely weren’t the only one. Plenty of viewers had the same reaction.
The “Buy U a Drank” singer appeared on Thursday, Sept. 24, dressed entirely in icy blue, rocking matching pants, a fitted cropped top and a zip-up jacket. With the addition of a white head covering, the look had more than a few fans convinced they were seeing him from a hospital bed.
But in the video, T-Pain was actually busy defending his outfit choice.
“The first thing I want y’all to do is stop hating,” he said, before recalling how Lil Wayne once “came out on stage in the tightest pants known to man,” only for skinny jeans to suddenly become a major trend.
“I’m not saying this is my taste or anything like that,” he continued. “But I saw it on Temu and I was like, ‘Hey, why not?’”
He then showed the receipt on screen, revealing a listing for a baby blue “INCERUN Men’S Set” in size XXL, priced at $55.50 after credit. “It’s a men’s set!” T-Pain exclaimed. “It says it’s a men’s …” He burst out laughing before finishing the sentence, while someone off camera cracked up with him. “It’s a men’s set,” he repeated, still laughing.
The video then cut to the Grammy winner standing up and giving viewers a full look at the outfit. “Y’all n****s hate me bro. That’s all it is. I get it,” he joked. “Hey, look. If I was you, I’d hate me too.”
Unfortunately for T-Pain, many viewers were more focused on whether he was okay than on whether the outfit technically qualified as menswear.
“TPAIN I THOUGHT YOU WERE IN ICU AFTER BRAIN SURGERY MY DUDE,” one person commented.
“Sir I thought we were about to get some bad news,” another wrote.
“I was like dang they letting him drink white claw in the ambulance,” a third person joked.
“First of all…..I thought something had happened, I was about to pray,” someone else added.
For the record, T-Pain is very much alive and keeping busy.
Earlier this month, the longtime gamer and streamer made an appearance at BlizzCon in Anaheim, where he presented the championship trophy to the winning team at the Overwatch World Cup. A week later, he performed a bass set under his Teddy Pain alias at Nocturnal Wonderland.
Next up, he’s set to headline an outdoor concert at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Oct. 17, with Ari Lennox joining him as the opening act.
