Angela Stribling, a trailblazing host on BET and a beloved radio personality, has died at 58 after a battle with brain cancer. Her husband, Ken Washington, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post on Sunday, September 27th.
“It is with a broken heart that I share that my beloved wife, Angela Marie Stribling, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 26, after a courageous two-year battle with brain cancer,” he wrote. “Her sister Darlene and I were by her side.”
He added, “Angela always saw the goodness in people. Where others saw challenges, she saw possibilities, and she had a remarkable gift for bringing out the very best in everyone around her. We were married for four wonderful years, and she changed my life for the better in every possible way.”
Washington also revealed that a celebration of life ceremony will take place in Washington, D.C., with the date and venue to be announced at a later time.
Stribling made her mark during BET’s early years, becoming one of the network’s most familiar faces as co-host of Screen Scene and a regular presence on Video Soul. She also co-hosted Jazz Central and made history as the first woman to host Quiet Storm on WHUR. In addition, she launched Pillow Talk with Angela, a late-night show on WHUR that was also broadcast on SiriusXM.
Former BET journalist Ed Gordon, who shared the screen with Stribling, paid tribute to her in a heartfelt Facebook post following news of her passing.
“So very sad to hear Angela Stribling has passed away. We worked together and became friends during our years at the network and remained friends once we both moved on to other opportunities. Her years at BET saw her host a number of shows and her sultry voice made her a staple on radio in the DC area and on Sirius,” he wrote. “During our last conversation, she told me that she and her husband would be spending more time in DC after being out west for a number of years. My prayers and best go out to him and her other loved ones. She was a sweet soul, RIP.”
