The Weeknd briefly stopped a recent performance in Jakarta, Indonesia , after noticing someone in the crowd shove a young fan against the barricade at the front of the stage.
During the first of his two shows at the Jakarta International Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 26), The Weeknd became concerned after spotting an overzealous concertgoer seemingly disregarding the safety of a younger fan. In a clip, the singer was seen moving toward the barricade to sing directly to the young fan when another person suddenly approached and pushed her out of the way. “Watch it,” he warned the older fan before turning his attention to the young girl to make sure she was alright.
The young fan has been identified as Katana , who beat cancer in 2022 and has stayed in touch with The Weeknd ever since, regularly attending his concerts.
The Weeknd is currently wrapping up the final leg of his After Hours til Dawn Tour, which first launched in 2023. He kicked off the Asian leg with two performances at the Belluna Dome in Tokorozawa, Japan, just outside Tokyo. Following his two shows in Indonesia, he’s set to take the stage in Goyang, South Korea, Bangkok, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
During his performances in Japan, The Weeknd debuted a new track featuring a prominent sample of Yoko Takahashi’s beloved Neon Genesis Evangelion theme, “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis.” The original track also had its moment in the spotlight when The Weeknd surprised fans by bringing Takahashi onstage to perform the theme song in its entirety.
