A North Carolina police department is playfully warning potential arrestees that their punishment could begin with a dose of Taylor Swift before they even finish processing.
“Those who are arrested tonight will be required to listen to Taylor Swift’s new songs on repeat,” the Greensboro Police Department wrote on its official X account on Tuesday (Sept. 29).
The post references Swift’s recently released The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, a deluxe edition of her 2025 album featuring four new tracks.
Shared Tuesday afternoon, the post quickly gained traction online. Within hours, it had amassed 30,987 likes, more than 3,800 retweets, and over one million views.
“We apologize for stirring up the Taylor bots,” the Greensboro PD wrote in a follow-up post. “Please continue to listen to The Life of a Showgirl.”
The posts come shortly after Swift’s latest releases sparked mixed reactions from critics and fans. Pitchfork awarded the Showgirl Encore edition a 4.0 rating, with journalist Shaad D’Souza criticizing Swift for having “let the quality of her songwriting slide in favor of commercial domination.”
Meanwhile, Maya Georgi of Rolling Stone argued that the four-track collection “has not only confused the story of Showgirl, she’s also muddled that of Taylor Swift™.”
Despite the divided reception, Swift took home three awards at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, including Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia” and Best Direction for “Opalite.” She also became the first recipient of the Artist Director Honors .
