Farrah Abraham Faces Two Months With Her Jaw Wired Shut After Undergoing Major Surgery

Farrah Abraham is preparing for two months without speaking or eating solid foods after undergoing major jaw surgery, and the former Teen Mom star is already finding the recovery process challenging. Her jaw has been wired shut following a double-disc procedure, resulting in severe facial swelling, considerable weight loss, and hearing loss in one ear.

Abraham’s manager, Chrissy Johnston, confirmed to People that the 35-year-old had her stitches removed on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Johnston called the development a “small but welcome milestone,” although Abraham still has weeks of recovery ahead on a strict liquid diet.

“She’s understandably not having the easiest time right now,” Johnston said. “The severe pain, swelling, and inability to eat solid food, open her mouth or talk have taken a significant toll on her mood, but she’s doing her best to stay positive.”

Abraham has been communicating through written messages, describing her swollen appearance as “Frankenstein.” She also held up a sign explaining that she was unable to speak after the operation and expressing hope that the swelling would go down within three months.

The surgery comes after Abraham’s recent appearance on the Pillow Talk podcast, where she revealed that she had developed what she called degenerative disc disease affecting her jaw. She explained at the time that the condition had become so severe that she could no longer open her mouth normally.

“I can’t use my jaw. I can’t open my mouth up normally,” she said, admitting that she was preparing for a “really big surgery.”

Even amid the challenges, Abraham found room for humor, joking about wanting to “just open [her] mouth for a hotdog.”

The latest operation follows years of Abraham openly sharing her cosmetic surgery journey. Since making her MTV debut on 16 and Pregnant in 2009, she has undergone several breast augmentations, rhinoplasty, lip procedures, buttock enhancements, and other treatments.

In 2015, a lip implant procedure went wrong, causing severe swelling that landed her in the hospital. She later appeared on Botched to address the complications.

Abraham’s recovery is also unfolding as she continues her bid for an Austin City Council seat and prepares for a separate civil trial against former Windsor Mayor Dominic Foppoli, whom she has accused of drugging and sexually assaulting her. Foppoli has denied the allegations.

For now, Abraham’s main focus is healing from a procedure that has temporarily prevented her from speaking or eating normally.

“She still has a long road ahead,” Johnston said. “She’s taking things one day at a time and trying to keep moving forward.”
