Eddie Murphy to Make His First Scripted Series Appearance in ‘The Chairman’

Eddie Murphy is set to enter a new chapter in his career as he prepares to lead his first-ever scripted series for Peacock.

According to Deadline, the legendary actor will star in the upcoming drama series The Chairman, created by Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner.

While details surrounding the project remain limited, the series adds to Murphy’s recent wave of work following his Netflix documentary Being Eddie and the Prime Video film The Pickup, both released in 2025. He is also set to appear in the upcoming film Shrek 5.

Despite building an iconic film career filled with blockbuster hits dating back to 48 Hours in 1982, Murphy has never previously led a scripted television series. However, he has been behind two shows as a creator: The PJs and The Royal Family.

In other Eddie Murphy news, his long-discussed Donkey spinoff movie from the Shrek franchise has officially been confirmed and is expected to arrive in 2028.

The upcoming film will reportedly explore the origin story of Murphy’s beloved Donkey character from the Shrek franchise. Charlie Bean is set to direct, with Matt Flynn serving as co-director and Rebecca Huntley attached as producer.
