Gunna Starts His Own Record Label After Leaving YSL Records

Gunna has established his own record label following his departure from YSL Records.

After releasing his new single “Pop It” on Friday (Oct. 9), Gunna announced the launch of his music imprint, SB The Label, in partnership with Atlantic Music Group. The 33-year-old rapper will serve as the label’s CEO, with its initial roster featuring Casper Bluff, Nechie and Dracc.

“SB THE LABEL represents the beginning of a new chapter for me,” Gunna said in a press release. “It only felt right to start that chapter alongside my brothers Casper Bluff, Nechie, and Dracc, who are the first artists signed to the label.”

“For me, this is about stepping into a new role, expanding what I can create, and building something that represents where I’m headed next,” he added.

Atlantic Music Group Chairman and CEO Elliot Grainge shared Gunna’s enthusiasm, welcoming the Atlanta rapper as a business partner.

“It’s impossible to overstate Gunna’s influence on this generation of hip-hop and music as a whole. We’re grateful and honored that he’s chosen AMG as his partner to bring this endeavor to music fans,” Grainge said in a statement.

Gunna’s new single “Pop It” also arrived with an entertaining music video featuring tennis star Coco Gauff. Directed by Gunna’s Creative Director, Spike Jordan, the visual shows the rapper and Gauff going head-to-head on the tennis court, alongside scenes of luxury and extravagance that complement Gunna’s boastful lyrics.

Gunna’s transition from recording artist to label executive follows years of releasing hit records through Young Thug’s YSL Records. His biggest collaborations include the Diamond-certified hit “Drip Too Hard” with Lil Baby, the anthemic “Pushin P” featuring Future and Thug, and the viral track “Hot” with Travis Scott, which appeared on Young Thug’s 2019 album, So Much Fun.

Last August, Gunna released his sixth project, The Last Wun, marking his final album under YSL Records. The project features standout collaborations, including the Chris Brown-assisted “wgft (Remix)” and “Forever Be Mine,” featuring Wizkid.
