Brian Steel has revealed why he joined Lil Durk’s legal team, explaining that Young Thug played a key role in encouraging him to take on the case.
On Tuesday (Oct. 13), the high-profile attorney appeared on T.I.’s expediTIously podcast, where he discussed representing Young Thug, Lil Durk and Diddy in several high-stakes legal battles.
Steel, who joined Durk’s murder-for-hire case just months before the trial began, said the rapper’s team had repeatedly reached out to him, but his busy schedule initially prevented him from taking the case. That changed when Young Thug intervened.
“Then Jeffery called me and said, ‘I love Durk. Durk is my brother,” Steel recounted. “‘I understand they’ve been calling you. Can you just make a meeting with them and work it out.’ I was already eager to do it. It was just my schedule.”
Steel explained that after meeting with Durk’s family and team, he managed to rearrange his schedule and join attorney Drew Findling in successfully defending the rapper in the murder-for-hire case.
Having helped Durk secure a victory in that case, Steel is now part of the rapper’s defense team for his upcoming racketeering trial, which is scheduled for next August. Durk is also expected to attend a bond hearing next month, where he could potentially be released ahead of the trial.
His legal team is seeking to have the racketeering case dismissed, arguing that Durk has already been acquitted of the central allegation involved in the case.
