Zendaya Teams Up With ‘Civil War’ Director Alex Garland for New A24 Sci-Fi Film

Zendaya is adding another major film to her growing résumé, teaming up with Civil War director Alex Garland for a new project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya will star in an untitled sci-fi film for A24, with Garland writing and directing. Production is expected to begin in 2027, while the plot, additional cast and release date have yet to be announced.

The film marks another collaboration between Zendaya and A24, which produced her HBO series Euphoria and released The Drama, her 2026 movie with Robert Pattinson.

Garland has also worked with the studio on several projects, including Ex Machina, Men, Civil War and Warfare. He is currently developing an adaptation of the popular video game Elden Ring, which is slated to arrive in theaters in 2028.

The announcement comes amid a busy year for Zendaya, who continues to expand her filmography with roles in major franchises and independent productions.

Earlier this year, Zendaya reunited with Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which became the highest-grossing film in domestic box office history. The pair also starred in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which became Universal Pictures’ biggest release to date.

Zendaya is also set to reprise her role as Chani in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three, hitting theaters this December.

On the small screen, she earned another Emmy nomination for playing Rue in the third and final season of Euphoria.

And her packed schedule shows no signs of easing up. Zendaya will portray music icon Ronnie Spector in Be My Baby, an A24-backed film directed by Barry Jenkins. She’s also venturing into animation with Shrek 5, voicing the child of the franchise’s beloved ogre couple when the movie arrives next summer.
