Tyler Perry Snags $30M Puerto Rico Estate After Listing $96.5M in Properties for Sale

Tyler Perry previously revealed that he was ready to take things slower, and it looks like his next chapter begins with a $30 million mansion in Puerto Rico.

The 57-year-old filmmaker has officially acquired a sprawling estate on the island after announcing last month that he intends to relocate in early 2027. According to TMZ, Perry purchased a 14,475-square-foot property equipped with the kind of luxury amenities befitting someone whose real estate portfolio spans multiple states and the Caribbean.

Built in 2021, the five-bedroom, 10-bathroom mansion occupies nearly 1.4 acres within a gated community. The residence features a private movie theater, swimming pool, gym, and open-concept kitchen. Perry reportedly paid more than $30 million for the property, although the exact purchase price has not been revealed.

Perry has made it clear that he wants to cut back on work, but that doesn’t mean he’s walking away from the entertainment industry completely.

According to sources who spoke with TMZ, the Madea creator intends to establish a production office in Puerto Rico and film projects on the island. However, no timeline for the office or details about the productions have been announced.

The mansion purchase comes about a month after Perry revealed plans to make significant changes to his lifestyle.

During a September appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Perry told Justin Sylvester that he intended to move to Puerto Rico with his 11-year-old son, Aman, whom he shares with his former girlfriend, Gelila Bekele.

“Yep, moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot,” Perry said.

When asked what inspired the decision, the filmmaker didn’t mention any particular project or dissatisfaction with the industry.

“Getting older,” he explained. “It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son and just take it all in.”

Perry’s latest purchase also comes after he decided to list nearly $100 million worth of real estate for sale.

In September, he put his sprawling Beverly Hills estate on the market for $57 million. The property covers 22.5 acres and features a Mediterranean-style mansion spanning approximately 24,500 square feet. Perry purchased the land for $4.3 million in 2004 and completed construction on the home in 2012.

The Beverly Hills compound previously served as a residence for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle after they stepped away from royal duties in 2020.

The listing followed Perry’s decision to put his Jackson Hole, Wyoming, retreat up for sale in June for $39.5 million. Together, the two properties have a combined asking price of $96.5 million.

Despite his plans to slow down, Perry’s production schedule remains busy. His recent Netflix releases include Why Did I Get Married Again?, starring Taraji P. Henson, Tasha Smith, and Michael Jai White, as well as Doing Life, which he said drew inspiration from the classic 1990s Black romance films Jason’s Lyric and Love Jones.

The cast of Why Did I Get Married Again? previously revealed that Perry filmed the sequel in just four days, with Smith describing the demanding schedule as “refined insanity.”
