Yung Miami Opens Up About City Girls’ Split in “Dear JT”: ‘We Could Have Made History’

Yung Miami gets emotional on “Dear JT,” a new track from her recently released album, Watch Dis!, where she reflects on the breakup of City Girls.

In the opening verse of the new song, which she co-produced with Gumbo, Miami looks back nostalgically on the days when she and JT were “trying to make ends meet” before finding fame. She also recalls the “dark times” and “hard times” they endured together along the way.

“A lot of shit done changed, everything new to me / Feels like I’m losin’ you, girl, ‘member it used to be,” she raps before the chorus, which interpolates Diana Ross, comes in.

In the second verse, Miami describes “Dear JT” as a “letter to my friend,” although their friendship appears to be on hold for now. She also admits that “fallin’ out with my sister in public” was “so embarrassing,” reflecting on how she and her former City Girls partner were once “thick as thieves.”

Miami also references Drake’s 2018 Scorpion hit “In My Feelings,” a track that played a significant role in the broader City Girls story.

“Sis, we could have made history,” Miami laments in the song’s closing seconds.

During an interview with Nessa Diab on Hot 97 ahead of her album’s release (Oct. 22), Miami revealed that making the track brought her to tears. She also confirmed that she didn’t get a chance to play the song for JT before releasing it to the public.

“We started here together, and to be on separate journeys, I appreciate it,” Miami said. “I’m never gonna forget where it started.”

At the time of writing, JT has yet to publicly respond to the song. However, Miami’s comments suggest that a potential City Girls reunion in the future may still be possible.
