Man Arrested After Allegedly Brandishing Butcher Knife on ‘Miami Vice ’85’ Set

Production on Michael B. Jordan’s upcoming movie Miami Vice ’85 was reportedly disrupted after a man allegedly pulled out a butcher knife and threatened a crew member on the film’s Brooklyn set.

According to TMZ, the incident took place on Friday (Oct. 23) at around 11 p.m., when 23-year-old Alex Perez allegedly ran onto the set and caused a disturbance that left several crew members frightened.

Things reportedly took a more serious turn when Perez allegedly pulled out a large butcher knife and threatened a member of the production staff, leading someone on set to call the NYPD.

Officers arrived at the scene and took Perez into custody at approximately 11:17 p.m.

Footage obtained by TMZ reportedly shows Perez being escorted away from the filming area by a staff member before pulling a knife from his sweatshirt pocket. Authorities also allege that Perez directed a racial slur at the same staff member while officers were handcuffing him.

Perez was charged with second-degree menacing with a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say the 23-year-old had been arrested five times before, including in cases involving alleged gang activity, assault with a firearm, and burglary.

The incident forced production to halt filming for the rest of the night. However, it remains unknown whether Jordan or any of the movie’s other stars were present during the confrontation.

Miami Vice ’85 is an upcoming film adaptation of the popular NBC crime drama, which originally ran from 1984 to 1989.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the film features Jordan as Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs, alongside Austin Butler, who plays his partner, Sonny Crockett.

The cast also includes John Leguizamo as the film’s antagonist, Calderone, along with Walton Goggins, André Holland, Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez.

Filming kicked off earlier this month in Wayne, New Jersey, where Jordan and Butler were spotted on a set designed to resemble a 1980s shopping center. Production later moved to New York City, with additional filming expected to take place in Miami.
