Yung Miami received a warm hometown welcome on Saturday (Nov. 7), taking the stage in Miami to accept a key to the city along with an official proclamation declaring a day in her honor.
The recognition took place at the America-N-Miami Veterans & Small Business Festival, organized by Jazz in the Heights. Miami-Dade County Vice Chairman Kionne McGhee presented Yung Miami with the key to the city in a box, while another official stood beside her holding the framed proclamation.
The rapper expressed her gratitude to the hometown crowd before treating attendees to a brief performance of her song “Spend Dat.”
The recognition comes at a major point in Yung Miami’s solo career. Born Caresha Brownlee, the rapper grew up in Opa-locka, Florida, after being born in Miami. She initially rose to fame alongside JT as one-half of the rap duo City Girls.
Her debut solo album, Watch Dis!, arrived on Oct. 23 through Uptown/Republic, with “Spend Dat” serving as its lead single.
The track reached No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned platinum certification, despite facing public criticism from India Arie, who called for a boycott. Yung Miami stood by the record, describing it as music “that builds you up to want to be somebody.”
Miami has previously celebrated some of its biggest stars with similar honors. Trina received keys from both the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County during the inaugural “Trina Day,” while Camila Cabello was selected to receive a key to the city during January’s Three Kings Parade.
