Nicki Minaj revealed that she was invited to become a member of the Recording Academy—the organization behind the GRAMMYs—but chose to decline.
Speaking during a live StationHead session on Friday, July 11, the “Monster” rapper shared that while she appreciated the invitation, she had valid reasons for turning it down, according to JustJared.
“At one point, the Grammys asked me to be on the board,” Nicki Minaj said during her StationHead broadcast. “I appreciated it. It was a very, very, very kind gesture, but my integrity couldn’t allow me to accept it. This was before the release of Pink Friday 2.”
She added, “My integrity couldn’t allow me to sit on the board of something that made absolutely no sense to me and to anyone that understands. So, I said no. I thought it was kind of them to try. Why would I be sitting on the board if I don’t have a Grammy?”
Despite several nominations over the years, including Best Rap Song in 2024, Nicki has yet to win a Grammy.
Elsewhere, Minaj has been making headlines for reigniting past controversy over her infamous vaccine claim. Back in 2021, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she tweeted that her cousin’s friend experienced swollen genitalia after getting vaccinated—a statement that sparked backlash and was widely dismissed as misinformation.
On July 8, she took to X (formerly Twitter) to revisit the incident while calling out Democrats, JAY-Z, Roc Nation, and the music industry as a whole.
“Democrats attacked me over my cousin’s b*lls. Remember?” she wrote. “Let’s see if they have any thoughts on that DESIRAT pardon. Let’s see if they have any thoughts on brother billionaire never campaigning for Kamala even after Obama pleaded with the ‘brothers.'”
