Teyana Taylor Fulfills a Lifelong Dream by Enrolling in Culinary School: ‘I Was the Hood Betty Crocker’

Teyana Taylor is officially stepping into the culinary world—and doing it in style.

On Friday, she took to Instagram to announce that she’s started culinary school. In the video, Taylor rocked an Escoffier apron and a black cap while showing off some dance moves to GloRilla’s “Let Her Cook,” with her daughter Iman hyping her up right beside her.

“Went into my first day of Culinary school with a banggggggg s/o to my Twinskiiiiiii Junebuggggggg!,” she captioned the clip. “Wow… it’s really happening. A dream I’ve carried in my heart for so long is finally becoming a reality and I’m feeling every bit of it.”

Taylor opened up further in her caption, sharing how cooking has always been more than just a hobby—it’s been her peace and her therapy. She gave props to the women she grew up watching in the kitchen, crediting those early memories for sparking her passion. It wasn’t long before she was baking cakes for her Harlem neighbors, proudly dubbing herself the “hood Betty Crocker.”

“Through every twist and turn in my life and career, the kitchen has been a safe space,” she wrote. “So it was always a goal of mine to get my degree in Culinary arts & Pastry arts but I never got around to it due to my crazy work schedule, mommy life and simply life, life’nnnnn.”

Judging by the logo on her apron, she’s enrolled at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, which offers flexible online courses—perfect for someone with Taylor’s nonstop schedule. The school was also recently named one of Newsweek’s Top Online Colleges for 2025.

Wrapping up her message, Taylor expressed how this new chapter is more than just pursuing a dream—it’s about stepping into her purpose. “I get to take this love even deeper,” she said, adding that she’s ready to learn, grow, and fully honor the culinary and pastry arts that have been such a big part of her life and culture.

Her announcement was met with plenty of love in the comments. Kerry Washington hyped her up with, “YAAAAAAAS CHEF. this is SOOOOOOOOOOO inspiring!!!!!” while Ayo Edebiri chimed in with, “Omg yes chef.”
